It's been a long time since my last blog. Today I felt the need for some therapy - so I'm back at it. I revisited my last post April 2010 - the contents caused the 'check engine' light to glow. A reminder to me how strong words can be - how every reader may come up with a different version of what the writer was trying to get across. I wonder if my words ever caused someone to construe them as 'a call to violence'? Since writing is therapy for a lot of folks, how do we (writers/bloggers) make sure that our words never cause harm? I don't know the answer - but as I drive down this therapy highway - I will look for the signs.
Yesterday was a sad day for our country-A young girl and others killed by an unstable soul, a Congresswoman seriously injured while doing her job, many others wounded. The shooter was unbalanced - of that I am certain. The 'left' was quick to blame the 'right' - the 'right' blames the 'left' - no one stands up and takes resposibility. Was anyone other than the gunman responsible? Was Sarah Palin responsible for putting crosshairs on this Arizona district? Was Glenn Beck responsible? How about Rush and his hate radio? I am certain that Palin did not mean for anyone to actually shoot people. It takes more muster to believe that Beck & Rush also did not want murder on their hands. No one is to blame but the poor, sick kid with the Glock. However, it is time for the hate speech to stop No more can we tolerate people putting coffins on the lawns of our representatives (as the StL Tea Party did to Rep. Carnahan.) No more can we incite people by screaming hate on talk radio and cable TV. No more can bloggers talk about running down right wingers who are traveling in their lane. I will probably never agree with the right - but I will try to NEVER use hate in my writings. I am going to hang a quote from my priest on my dash "we are ALL God's beloved". All of us - Republicans, Democrats, right and left. We are beloved. Lets act like it - starting with me.
