The Journey Begins

The first thing the reader should know (if its not obvious), I'm not a writer.  Neither am I a driver - well a good driver that is.  I hate driving.  It has something to do with this genetic disorder that I have - my cerebellum is shrinking and I have very poor balance and a squeaky voice - but that's neither here nor there.  This blog is about finding peace and sanity in one crazy, mf'ing world.

I used to be oblivious and Republican.  (Aren't all Republicans oblivious?) In early 2004 I had an epiphany - no kidding - in the middle of the night.  My husband went to bed with a Republican wife and woke up with a liberal lunatic - both those women were ME.

Speeding through this story line, we arrive at what's driving me CRAZY.  So many things, so many people - it has all become too much.  So I'm taking a little trip down tHERapy highway by writing - its suppose to soothe the soul.  We'll see.  (I'll let the reader be the judge.)

I am insanely neurotic about politics.  I am a cable-news junkie - Chris, Keith, Rachel, Stephen Colbert, Jon-Jon, and of course, the irreverant Bill Maher.  If by chance Bill-O, Hannity or Beck happened to be in the road - well, all I can say is roadkill.

I don't just take pleasure drives.  I actually work hard on my political causes.  I volunteer, speak out, beg, work at rallies, write and call my senators and congress persons.  I worked HARD for POTUS.  I even worked on his senate campaign.  I put the gas in the tank - I don't drive on fumes.

So what are the bugs on my windshield, you ask?  My two current squashed pieces of crap are healthcare reform and Barack's address to school kids.
These two issues have nearly drove me off the road of reality.

Healthcare Reform.  Personally, I want universal healthcare, but being the middle-of the- road gal (that I'm not) - I will settle for public option.  Now I am afraid that President Obama is not going to come through on this - so I'm turning on the flashers.  EMERGENCY!  Will my love affair with Obama come to an abrupt HALT??  I guess I will know Wednesday - stay tuned.

The caution that schools are taking regarding Obama's speech that will be geared to students - telling them to study hard & stay in school - that really has this menopausal engine overheating.  GET A LUBE JOB PEOPLE!  Can you even fathom the idea that schools are not showing this live?  He is the President.  He is as black as my Firestones, but he lives in the freaking WHITEHOUSE!
That's all for now - I have to refuel - a Blue Moon with an orange slice should do the trick.
Thanks for reading - follow along - I'll try to stay out of the ditch but I cannot promise not to cross the center line!

I've spent the entire week fighting this battle. As a free society we no longer feel compelled to let the other person speak. How sad.

You go girl!

This is just a confirmation...I'm reading you, loud and clear. Never knew about the 2004 story of going to bed a conservative and waking up a liberal. Would love to hear the details of that one! In the meantime, I will stay abreast of your dailies and will be with you in spirit. You are not alone in the trenches!!

Way to go girl! I like what I read. No matter what happens on Wed, I think Obama is good for the long haul. I find it interesting to see comments when I post something on FB, since a lot of my friends are former students. ;-)) I still need to talk to you sometime tomorrow. ;-))

And as the late, great Texas liberal Jim Hightower said, "there's nothing in the middle of the road except for yellow lines and dead armadillos."

Great blog! You go girl!

“The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students,” House Majority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) said. “And the president should be doing more about education than saying, ‘Lights, camera, action.’ ”

Two House committees demanded that the department explain the use of its funds for the speech, an explanation that Deputy Secretary David T. Kearns provided late in the day in a letter to Rep. William D. Ford (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee. Education Secretary Lamar Alexander was out of town. [...]
Rep. Patricia Schroeder (D-Colo.), chairwoman of the Select Committee on Children, Youth and Families, said it was outrageous for the White House to “start using precious dollars for campaigns” when “we are struggling for every silly dime we can get” for education programs.

And what President was this about....

Bush...

One more gutless wingnut, won't even put a first name on their post.

Doesn't matter much, but Bush I made his appearance on the eve of the campaign season. Also, his rhetoric was at odds with his actions as President, since his biggest education initiative was to abdicate the federal role in educational policy to the states.

Still, the Democrats' response was childish. That is neither here nor there, however. The GOP campaign against Obama is just flat out opposition to everything he does, and they use epithets like "socialist" and "fascist" to scare the village idiots that form their base. Exploitation of racial fear remains the GOP stock in trade. That will not get them very far anymore.

Doesn't much matter. The sturm und drang of the Right is overblown by a media desperate for ratings. It is not shared by the majority of Americans. This too shall pass. We will overcome.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.
-- Jonathan Swift

Perhaps the opposition stems from fear of comparison with the last noteworthy Presidential engagement with school children -maybe Obama should drop the speech and read from lesson 60 ('The Pet Goat')
